US$252m Northern Triangle aid to promote US security, curb illegal immigration

The US State Department plans to provide aid of US$252m to the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, according to a 24 June press statement from US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo. The aim of the assistance is to boost prosperity and security in the countries in order to decrease illegal immigration to the US. A portion of the funds will also be used for humanitarian purposes, assisting with the emergency response following tropical storm Amanda.
