Roundtable event with HE Tom Hartley – The Bahamas

The Caribbean Council was pleased to hold a members-only roundtable event with HE Tom Hartley, the UK Commissioner to The Bahamas.

We discussed the huge opportunity for the UK and the Bahamas to massively increase their trade and investment relationship.   High Commissioner Hartley noted that following the Caribbean Council’s business mission to Bahamas in November 2023, over US$5.5 billion in potential deals were under discussion across a wide range of sectors but predominantly in transport and energy infrastructure.

Collaboration between the two countries on services, in tourism, in financial services and insurance, in digitisation, and many other sectors was significant with room for plenty more growth.   High Commissioner noted the Bahamas Government’s enactment of the Climate Change and Carbon Initiatives Act which provides the regulatory framework for the accreditation and transactions of blue carbon credits and offers a further area for close collaboration between firms in the two countries.

The Caribbean Council plans to take a second Business Mission to the Bahamas in March 2025.   If you would like to register interest in attending, please do get in touch.
