Caribbean Council hosted a Members Roundtable with British High Commissioner HE Alicia Herbert OBE 

During a well-attended session, British High Commissioner Herbert gave an insightful and interesting presentation on the current business environment in Jamaica and the opportunities for greater UK/Jamaican trade and investment.    The Caribbean Council also heard valuable insights from senior figures at DBT, Regional Director, D’Jamila Ward and Gisele Roberts, Country Director.

The group discussed the remarkable resilience which Jamaica’s economy has shown in the face of the US$12.2billion in estimated losses stemming from Hurricane Melissa last October. 

Investor confidence has remained strong with Moody’s in late 2025 upgrading their rating to Ba3 (Stable Outlook) rating for the country; and a robust recovery programme set in place of US$6.7bn from multilaterals to rebuild and support recovery in the affected areas. 

Priority projects at the current time will be led by the new National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA) and will include the effective and rapid implementation of plans to replace and upgrade road and electricity infrastructure, build climate-resilient housing, improve land-use planning, and relocate vulnerable communities from high-risk zones.
