Panama to Join Mercosur by December

Panama is hoping to confirm its associate membership of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) by December. Brazil has paid particular attention to the removal of various tax lists (FATF and EU) and wants to build on the US$963mn in trade the two countries enjoy. Panama has sold itself to Mercosur as a gateway to the rest of Central America in the hope of reaffirming the country as a major transport hub with the Canal resuming 36 boats a day and President José Raúl Mulino announcing anyone placing Panama on “discriminatory lists” will not receive a vote of support nor a state contract in return.
