The Caribbean Council in collaboration with Invest in El Salvador is delighted to invite you to join our upcoming online event: “El Salvador – A New Paradigm – Growth and Security” on Tuesday, 18th March at 3.00pm (GMT).

We are excited to extend this invitation for members interested in El Salvador and Central America to gain a greater understanding of the current economic landscape, access to key markets, modern infrastructure and enabling business environment.

Premier Members will have the opportunity to speak with Federico privately for five to ten minutes.

Discover more about El Salvador:

El Salvador is currently experiencing an extraordinary turn-around in its economic fortunes following decisive action by the current administration led by Bukele to enforce public safety and end the dominant position held by gangs in the country.  As a result, the homicide rate has dropped to 2.4 per 100,000, comparable to several countries in Europe. In 2017, El Salvador had the highest homicide rate in the world, a position now unfortunately held by Haiti.

The restoration of public security has led private investment flows into the country increasing to U$7.5bn in 2023 with a 33% increase in tourism with international visitors up to 3.4m in 2023. The IMF forecasts growth in 2025 to be 3% with inflation kept at 1.9%.

In the last 18 months, sovereign ratings agencies have all upgraded El Salvador’s risk rating as follows:

  • Fitch Ratings: B- with a stable outlook (upgraded in January 2025)
  • Moody’s: B3 with a stable outlook (upgraded in November 2024)
  • Standard & Poor’s (S&P): B- with a stable outlook (upgraded in September 2023)

These ratings represent a significant improvement in El Salvador’s credit standing, with the country exiting “junk bond” status reflecting reduced financing needs, improved market access, and a more stable economic outlook.

The Government is focussing on:

a) Modernising and upgrading infrastructure – including a PPP already signed worth US$1.6bn to upgrades its Acajutla and La Unión Ports;  Cargo terminal expansion at the airport; 900+ road projects;  a new Pacific Airport; a new trans-isthmus rail link; and rollout of 5G;

b) Digitising and streamlining government services

c) Diversifying the economy – including tech, manufacturing, mining and tourism.

Please join us for a private conversation with a senior Director within Invest in El Salvador to learn more about the changes the country is experiencing and to see where there may be opportunities for your company.
