The session concentrated on the current business environment in The Bahamas and the opportunities for greater UK trade, investment, and partnership. The High Commissioner described The Bahamas as broadly stable and well-positioned for growth, with a healthy budget, a fiscal surplus, and an improved credit rating.
Alongside its established #tourism sector, the country is pursuing an ambitious #infrastructure and development agenda, creating a range of diverse opportunities for UK companies.
Grand Bahama, the countryโs second-largest island, is a central focus, attracting major tourism and infrastructure investment of US$3.5 billion as it undergoes repositioning for long-term growth.
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ & ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐:
- Housing and social infrastructure:ย New public-private partnership for low-income housing is anticipated, with the main hospital also a priority. ย Opportunities in material supply.
- Energy:ย Grid modernisation is underway, supported by a major LNG agreement and growing interest in solar and wind,ย alongside a smart-meter programme. Reliability of supply is a pressing national priority.
- The Family Islands:ย Central to Bahamian identity, these islands are a focus for renewed investment, including a programme to upgrade airports acrossย nineteenย of them.
- Technology and AI:ย The government is seeking to improve efficiency, upskill the workforce, and modernise public services.
- Climate resilience:ย Given the countryโs exposure to extreme weather, there is strong demand for climate-resilient infrastructure and insurance.

The event concluded with a shared emphasis on partnerships, skills transfer, and the creation of long-term opportunities between the UK and The Bahamas.
