On Thursday 28th October we had the pleasure and honour to host our first Meet the Minister – Investor Round-table with Jamaican Finance Minister, Nigel Clarke MP and Minister for Industry, Audley Shaw, CD, MP.

Our Major Investor Group members heard about the robust V-shaped economic recovery which Jamaica is now making – with growth of over 7% GDP expected for the year to March 22; and the swift recovery of the labour market with 93k more in work than 12 months ago.  

They also heard about the determination and success of the Jamaican government to institutionalise economic stability even through the depths of the crisis; shown best by their decision to make the Central Bank of Jamaica independent in the midst of the pandemic; and other steps to tighten fiscal rules and improve still further requirements around transparency.  

Members heard about the projects now underway with foreign investors in infrastructure, BPO, tourism and many other sectors – and the opportunities which are coming up to get involved in sectors as varied as solar and wind energy, agriculture and agro-processing, special economic zones, and light manufacturing.
