IDB Roundtable: Driving Innovation and the Impact of Regional Developments in the Caribbean

The Caribbean Council was pleased to host an exclusive members-only roundtable featuring the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at the offices of Sidara.

We were delighted to have with us Luis Jiménez McInnis, IDB’s new European Representative to discuss IDB’s activities and priorities for the Caribbean. This discussion was also joined by Jesús Fernández Muñoz, who manages the relationships with UK entities and companies.

An insightful session bringing together development finance experts and private sector leaders to explore how UK and European firms can engage with sustainable infrastructure, innovation, and blended finance opportunities across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key Highlights:

  • IDB’s 2023 financing of US$26 billion, aligned with strategic goals: reducing poverty and inequality, tackling climate change, and promoting sustainable growth.
  • Opportunities for UK/EU firms through IDB platforms such as “Build for the Americas” and “Bid for the Americas”.
  • Case studies on blended capital success, including Massy Group financing and renewable energy auctions supported by UK Export Finance.
  • Insights into flagship programs like One Caribbean and Compete Caribbean Plus, fostering resilience, digital transformation, and women-led entrepreneurship.
  • Procurement insights and strategies for navigating short tender windows and engaging early in project lifecycles.

The event also featured the Sidara’s journey from the Dar Group to a global brand, showcasing major regional projects including Guyana’s Silica CityPanama Metro, and El Dorado Airport in Colombia.

The discussion underscored the vital role of strategic partnershipsblended finance, and local collaboration in unlocking the region’s full potential for sustainable and inclusive development.

We would like to thank our event hosts Sidara and Managing Director of Sidara – Daniel Horner, as well as our keynote speakers Luis Jiménez McInnis and Jesús Fernández Muñoz.
