On 15 April, the US President Barack Obama formally submitted to Congress a report and certificate setting out his administration’s intent to rescind the US’s designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The next stage in the process is that the certificate and report is placed before Congress for 45 days.
This is a move which the Cuba Initiative has argued for a long time and we welcome the move as a positive step in the right direction although most of the restrictions on trade with Cuba will stay in place including we understand OFAC restrictions on third party financial transactions.
