This year marked The Caribbean Council’s 15th Annual Reception at the House of Lords which took place on evening of 2nd April 2019. We were delighted to welcome as our 2019 guest of honour and keynote speaker, Hon Edmund Bartlett, MP, Minister of Tourism of Jamaica, who spoke about the exciting opportunities available to UK and international investors in various sectors in Jamaica. We were also delighted to welcome, The Baroness Fairhead, Minister of State at Department of International Trade, who also spoke on investment in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean as well as the importance of continuing to strengthen ties between UK and Caribbean and announced the recent signature of the UK-CARIFORUM Trade agreement which would come into force after the UK leaves the European Union.
In his capacity as President of the Caribbean Council, The Rt Hon the Lord Bruce of Bennachie hosted the Reception. The Reception offered an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage with MPs and Peers, the Caribbean and Central American Diplomatic Corps, senior members from the UK civil service and business leaders invested in and working with the region. During the evening, our guests had the opportunity to enjoy a rum punch on the terrace with views over the Thames whilst networking and listening to Caribbean steel pan music. Following the key note speeches, our unique Reception ended with a raffle where guests had the chance of winning a range of fantastic prices.
