Each year, The Caribbean Council hosts an Annual Reception at the House of Lords which provides a unique opportunity for UK, Caribbean and Central American companies to network with others from the UK and the region who are involved in supporting the region’s economic development and bilateral investment.
Since its inception in 2004, the Reception has developed a reputation as one of the best and, only Caribbean specific events, in the Parliamentary Calendar. Each year, The Caribbean Council selects a country to host the Reception. Past host countries have included St Lucia, Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica.
Typically, the Reception welcomes around 300 guests who include an influential mix of MPs, Peers, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, UK Civil Service members from the Foreign Office, NGOs, members of the Caribbean community in the UK and business leaders invested in or working with the Caribbean region.
In his capacity as President of the Caribbean Council, The Rt Hon. the Lord Bruce of Bennachie, hosts the Reception and is delighted to welcome each year two guest speakers; one a Senior Government representative from the host country and the other a British Minister.
During the evening, our guests have the opportunity of enjoying a rum punch on the terrace with views over the Thames whilst networking and listening to Caribbean steel pan music. Following the key note speeches, our marvellous Reception ends with a raffle where guests have the chance of winning a range of fantastic prizes. In the past, our prizes have included a holiday for two to the Caribbean, a bottle of run and Cuban Cigars.
